Call for papers
Albanian Institute of Sociology (=Albanian Sociological Association), regular and collective member of International Sociological Association (ISA) and European Sociological Association (ESA) invites scholars of sociology and other social sciences to the 7th International Conference, which will take place from 26th to 27th November 2012 in the city of Vlora- Albania.

10th of July 2012: The confirmation of abstract receipt
30th of July 2012: Deadline for the decisions of acceptance of the abstracts
5th of September 2012: Deadline for early registrations
5th of October 2012: Deadline for late registration
1st of November 2012: Deadline for the Conference Programme
Abstracts:
Languages: English
Length of the abstract: 150-200 words
Key words: 4-6
Tables, figures and references should not be included in abstracts.
A short CV of the author/authors should be included in abstracts
How to present a paper:
Choose the Session (Thematic Sections: ST01 – ST15) to which you wish to participate;
Submit the abstract to the AIS Conference Secretary (both in addresses: aisconference@gmail.com and conference2012@instituti-sociologjise.al);. Please don’t submit more than two abstracts for the entire conference. In case when two abstracts are submitted those must not refer to a single Thematic Section;
Wait for the confirmation of abstract receipt. Those who do not receive confirmation within 10 days should contact the secretary of the conference;
Wait for the Acceptance Letter;
Change your abstract, if you need, and send its last version before 20th of September 2012;
Contact with Secretary of the conference for the registration procedures;
Take the confirmation of your registration.
Conference Fees
AIS with the financial support of its partners could cover only partially conference costs. So a fee of participation is necessary (to be decided by the categories of participants).

Thematic issues
We refer to self-image as ‘identity’ and the image that others have for us, as ‘imago’: identity=self-definition; image/imago=imposed identity. The cultural and ethnic groups are very sensitive about their identity. And the positive perceptions of identity give rise to self-esteem and self-respect, but its negative perceptions give rise up to chauvinism: “we” are better than “they” are. There is a strong correlation between national identity and state stability. How are ‘the same” (from the Latin: identity = idem = the same) the people of the same nationality (nation, from nasci=to be born) within countries and in different countries? What about the other identities, such as cultural, professional, social, individual and so on? What about the social cohesion, meaning the social glue that holds societies together? How to measure the ‘indefinable’ (Durkheim) identity, image or social cohesion?
To debate about these ‘critical themes’ of our time of interdependence and universal responsibilities, ‘when a new flu infects one human being all are at risk’ - the Albanian Institute of Sociology and its partners invite scholars from all over the world in this interdisciplinary conference about Identity, Image and Social Cohesion.
